Quantifying Plumes at Ground Level

The QLM camera uses the measured methane concentration gradient of the plume to estimate its center/origin (green diamond), and uses it’s lidar range measurement to the solid surface at the plume origin to determine distance to the plume. This is a ground-level, 10kg/hr controlled release at 55m range, at the Texas Tech Oilfield Technology Center, carried out with our partners at SLB. Another interesting feature of this sequence is that the plume is seen sometimes behind (and sometimes in front of) the two square electrical panels at center.
