Plume Behavior During Changing Wind Directions

We watched this plume drastically change shape over the course of a few minutes as the wind changed direction and as the turbulence due to the tanks below the leak affected the plume differently at different wind headings. The plume here is 52m from the QLM gas imaging lidar camera and has a 5 kg/hr release rate the camera measured at 4.7 kg/hr. To comply with new EPA regulations, continuous monitoring solutions like ours must be able to provide consistent and accurate methane emissions quantification results in changing conditions, at the required lower levels of detection. These images were captured during a measurement campaign with our partners at SLB at the TTU Oilfield Tech Center.
