Correct Quantification: Plume Size, Density Profiles, and Wind Fields
These two leaks both have pretty high (and similar) flow rates but were born into two very different wind fields, differing by a factor of 2x. They have similar density profiles and similar spatial sizes when zoom and perspective is taken into account. It’s counterintuitive, therefore, that the plume on the left looks like bigger leak when that’s not the case. This underscores the importance of needing both the wind and gas density measurements in order to get the right emissions quantification answer.
