QLM Speed Cameras for Methane

Speed limits enforced by aircraft have long been a joke but now traffic officers with radar guns have also had their day. Automatic traffic cameras are now handing out 99% of the speeding tickets in the UK and nabbed about 3 million drivers, or 1 in 15 of all drivers, last year. Together these then pay up about £300 million, more than 10x what it takes to install and service all those car-watching cameras, so new ones are spreading fast. Intelligent cameras are now charging access and parking fees, checking insurance, enforcing seat belt and phone use laws, all makingmoney for road safety, driver training, local authorities and suppliers.

QLM Technology’s low cost autonomous lidar methane cameras, which can see exactly where, when, and how much methane is being emitted, can help enforce climate change “speed limits” and pay for themselves. It is time to move beyond handheld leak surveys and “emissions enforced by aircraft” and use lidar cameras on the ground to really stop methane emissions.
