Thoughts on Muscle vs Autonomous Cars
post by Murray Reed .
I am back in Palo Alto this week and reminded how much California life depends on cars. The roads are big, fast, and crammed with hostile and inexperienced drivers, so car crashes are literally unavoidable. From the couple I have seen in just the last day, Tesla seems to be packing a disproportionate punch in the carnage. But at the same time beautiful classic cars remain everywhere. This 1965 Chevy Impala in the parking lot of Sigona’s made me flashback to the ‘64 Skylark I drove in grad school at Stanford. Muscle cars just never go out of style. The big change I can’t wait to try out though are the autonomous e-taxis in the city. These have been open-to-all with an app since July in SF, and November in LA. By all accounts Waymo and like are a serene, safe, and sustainable antidote to the crazy driver chaos. Intelligence has always been way cooler than muscle after all.
